Richard E. Olechna - Friday, 3/22/2024
Richard E. Olechna, 74, of Exeter, passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2024 in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center. He is survived by his loving companion of 41 years, Jean Manganiello. Born in Carbondale, he was a son of the late Leonard F. and Steffee Zabrowski Olechna. Rich was a graduate of Taylor - Moosic High School and Wilkes College. He was a proud U.S. Air Force veteran, having served during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Exeter American Legion Post 833, where he held the office of adjutant. Rich was also member of St. Barbara Parish, Exeter. Prior to retirement, Rich was employed for over 30 years at RCA, Dunmore and retired from the TSA-Department of Homeland Security at the Wilkes-Barre/ Scranton International Airport, Avoca. He was most recently employed by Baloga Funeral Home, Inc., Pittston and was one of their most dedicated staff members. Rich is also survived by his daughters, Heather Flieger and Jessica Olechna; grandsons, Ethan and Austin; brother, Leonard S. Olechna and wife, Linda; sister, Barbara Weinschenk and husband, Paul; aunt, Irene Maciaszek; numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, March 22, 2024, in St. Barbara Parish, 224 Memorial Street, Exeter, to be celebrated by Fr. Paul McDonnell, O.S.J.. Interment will be at a later date in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Carverton. Military honors will be conducted by the Exeter American Legion, Post 833. Relatives and friends may pay their respects at the church, from 9:30AM until the time of the mass. Arrangements have been entrusted to Baloga Funeral Home, Inc. 1201 Main Street, Pittston (Port Griffith).
