Ellen Doyle Mondlak - Saturday, 8/2/2025
Ellen Doyle Mondlak, Port Griffith, was taken under the wings of the angels on July 16, 2025. Ellen was raised in Wilkes-Barre, the daughter of the late Dr. William and Catherine Murray Doyle. She was a 1959 graduate of St. Mary's High School, Wilkes-Barre and College Misericordia, Dallas. Prior to her affiliation with the family business Mondlak Printery, she was an elementary school teacher. Ellen's main interest in life was always her children and grandchildren with whom she'd spend as much time as possible spoiling them, engaging with them and giving them life advice. Ellen was a former member of the Pittston Area Advisory Board and the Jenkins American Legion Auxiliary. Ellen was a past president of the Luzerne County Crime Clinic, a member of the College Misericordia Women's Alumnae Network, and a board member of the Pittston Township Ambulance Association. She served on the Jenkins Township Zoning Board as both Chairwoman and Secretary. She always had great interest in politics and served as a Jenkins Township Committeewoman. She was an ardent Library advocate, serving on the Board of Trustees of the Pittston Memorial Library as President, Vice President, and Member, as well as former President of the Friends of the Library. Ellen regularly involved her grandchildren in many activities at the library whether it was book drives, reading events, or riding in the library car in the Pittston Tomato Festival Parade. Ellen was also an avid fan of the Windsor Park Stories Projects. She was a dedicated member of St. Mark's Parish and its Altar & Rosary Society until its closure and currently a member of St. John the Evangelist Church, Pittston. Ellen Mondlak was admired by family and adored by her grandchildren. Ellen constantly thought of others first, never sitting down when another person was standing, and always acting on what she knew to be the best for those around her. Despite the constant effort and energy spent on others, Ellen always made sure to spend time with family. From endless requests to play yet one more board game with her grandkids (except Monopoly, because who has time for that), to late night card games with family, Ellen cherished having fun with the people around her. Through that passion, she inspired and uplifted those who spent time with her. Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, her son Dr. Gerald Mondlak Jr. (Oct. 2007), and brothers William and Gerald Doyle. She is survived by her husband Gerald "Jerry" Mondlak; son Atty. John Mondlak and his wife Atty. Michele Sarkos, their sons Elias and Athanasios, and their daughter Ariana, Philadelphia; daughter Susan Mondlak Fenske and her son Jacob and her daughter Mia, Shavertown; daughter-in-law Maria Mondlak and her daughter Alexandra, Miami Florida, and her son Michael, Poconos; brother Robert Doyle and his wife Judy, Lewes, Delaware; sisters-in-law Janet Doyle, Harrisburg, and Cathy Doyle, Dallas; 5 nephews and 5 nieces. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 2, 2025, in St. John the Evangelist Church, 35 William St. Pittston. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Carverton. Relatives and friends may pay their respects at the church on Saturday morning from 9:00 AM until the time of the mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ellen’s memory to the Pittston Memorial Library 47 Broad Street, Pittston, PA 18640. Arrangements have been entrusted to Baloga Funeral Home Inc. 1201 Main Street Pittston, (Port Griffith). To send an online condolence, please visit www.balogafuneralhome.com.

Message: Hello family . I was 12 years old when I met Jerry and Ellen in our small town of Port Griffith . I become their babysitter and learned many life lessons . I still remember the beach trips ( where I attempted to make my bed since it was my first hotel stay!!) trips
to Harrisburg ( my first time ice skating and going into a jacuzzi when it was 15 degrees outside !) and many more !
I also had the privilege of working in the printery where I learned more life lessons and gradually grew into my own diverse person.
I continued to babysit during high school and on weekends during college .
Jerry and Ellen attended my college graduation at Penn State . I will never forget their kindness and compassion during our times together . They taught me how to exist with kindness and love . I will forever remember what they did for me . I will miss Ellen in so many aspects of life . Thanks to Ellen , I am a better person . I am so very sorry for your loss of this beautiful person .
