Barry J. Prandy, Sr., 79, of Pittston, passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2026 at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center. He and his wife, Margaret "Peggy" Sweeney Prandy, celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary on December 29, 2025.
Born in Jenkins Twp., he was a son of the late Arthur J. and Joyce Newman Prandy. He was a graduate of Pittston Area High School. Barry was a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having earned the rank of SGT. and served during the Vietnam War. In his earlier years, he was a barber instructor at City Barber Institute, Wilkes-Barre. He taught Black Jack at Luzerne Community College and was a professional card counter. Prior to retirement, he was the owner of Barry's Barbershop, Pittston and Prandy's Barbershop, Scranton. Barry retired from SCI Dallas State prison as a barber instructor. He was a member of the Ashley American Legion.
He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. His greatest joy was time spent with his family. He enjoyed the ocean and the many memories of cruises spent with his wife, Peggy.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Debbie Williams, Barry's sister-in-law, for her kindness and compassion in the help given to Barry during his illness.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Barry J. Prandy, Jr.; granddaughter, Avery Grace Prandy; sister, Joyce Anne Cardillo and husband Joseph; nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Sunday, April 19, 2026, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at Baloga Funeral Home, Inc. 1201 Main Street, Pittston, (Port Griffith).
Military honors will begin at 4:00PM with the AMVETS Honor Guard of Greater Pittston. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
